Counselling Service

My Journey

It may help to know a little about me and why I became a counsellor. My journey to becoming a counsellor started with my own personal therapy.

Where it began

My distress started in adolescence. I expressed my pain through my behaviour which was seen as “bad” and “disruptive”. The ways I coped were unhealthy and added to the distress, causing me to spiral into the darkness of depression and despair.

For a very long time I felt alone and trapped in my own pain and distress. I longed to be heard, for my experiences to be acknowledged and validated. My pleas were constantly rejected and, at times, I felt like I was going crazy.

journey of despair

Entering into counselling

I started counselling in my early 30s. My counsellor acknowledged my feelings and emotions and understood them without judgement.

I felt a huge sense of relief that what I was experiencing was real and completely normal. This allowed me to be compassionate towards myself.

My path towards self awareness and growth led me to my counselling training and I have never looked back.

Journey of change and growth

Moving on to help others.

I have a private practice based in Hall Green, Birmingham alongside working for a local charity; supporting survivors of rape and sexual violence.

I have been fortunate to find a way to help others who are suffering and I feel passionately about the work I do.

I know how difficult it can be to take the first step to contact a counsellor.

Why not drop me an email or give me a call and we can find a way that works best for you.

Work experience.

My work at a local charity has provided me with a wide range of experience including working with people of all genders, sexualities and cultures.

I have worked in several roles within the organisation including helpline, Senior Counsellor and Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA).

My understanding of the criminal justice system means that I can confidently offer pre-trial therapy for those who have, or are considering, reporting to the police.

How I work.

I work in a person centred way, which means that I am led by you. I will use my knowledge and experience of counselling individuals to help you understand what you are going through.

We will work together to understand your experience and I will be genuine and honest with you at all times. This promotes healing and helps to build confidence in your own decision making.
